Flagstaff Mountain Bike Race

Sorry for no recent post. I've had plenty of time as well as stuff to post, but I just haven't put anything up for some reason.

Last weekend, we went up to Flagstaff for a mountain bike race. I thought it would be extremely difficult due to the altitude of 7500 ft, but that wasn't my limiting factor. The heat in Phoenix hasn't allowed me to get out and ride much more than twice a week on weekend mornings. But I didn't go up to Flagstaff to race but rather just to ride and enjoy some colder temps. It was great to see trees! Plus it was around 70 F at 8am when we got there.

Here's some pictures of the former volcano, Humphrey's Peak that peaks at over 12,600 ft. It produced the lava fields that the raced weaved through that really made it a technical course. We drove up to the Snowbowl ski area on the mountain during the thunderstorms that you see in the pictures. Yes, it snows in Arizona.

A view from the Bottom

Up at 9,500 ft looking toward the Grand Canyon (about 1.5 hrs away)

A look up the ski slope. A two hour drive from the Phoenix heat and you are on alpine slopes!
